Google Algorithm Updates

Google’s algorithms are a complex system used to retrieve data from its search index and instantly deliver the best possible results for a query.In olden days, Google only made a handful of updates to its algorithms. But now, Google makes thousands of changes every year.  Here are some major algorithmic updates that significantly impact the SERPs such as:

Panda Updation

In 2011 Google introduced Panda updation in its algorithm. It is the updation introduced by Google against content spamming.

Content spamming means content duplication. That includes low quality content, grammatical mistakes, spelling mistakes etc. Automated content means using same content by making some modifications. Thin pages means there is no content in the web page. Through panda updation Google can easily identify and eliminate those website having these kinds of mistakes. In 2014 May 19 Google introduced a new version for panda   called panda 4.0.Google attach panda as a permanent filter in its algorithm.


Penguin Updation

In 2012 Google introduced penguin updation in its algorithm. It is the updation introduced by Google against link spamming. Mistakes against penguin updation are paid link- which means selling and purchasing of links by cash. Another one is link exchanging that is exchanging link each other. 

Link farming websites use link farming to boost their rankings in search engine results. Comment spamming means adding or pasting links as a comment in blogs etc. Wiki spamming means adding links in Wikipedia inorder to increase ranking. In 2016 Google made an updation to this version called penguin 4.0. In this Google attach penguin as a real time in its algorithm through this Google can easily and quickly identify and punish the webpages having these kinds of mistakes.

Pigeon Updation

It is the updation introduced by Google against local listing. This updation is related to local area search. For example when a user search a place if it is a parlor the Google results will be nearest located parlor. Google made this updation to cover local audience.
Methods for local listing are

  • Website must be place marked
  • Contact details must be visible in local directories
  • In order to attract local audience should have to do geo tagging.
  • Off page interactions from local customers will help for local ranking





Humming Bird Updation

It was announced on September 26, 2013, "Hummingbird" places greater emphasis on natural language queries, considering context and meaning over individual keywords. It also looks deeper at content on individual pages of a website, with improved ability to lead users directly to the most appropriate page rather than just a website's homepage.


Rank Brain


It is an another version of hummingbird updation. Rank Brain is an algorithm update in Google it is a machine learning technology which helps to deliver its search results.

Mobile Geddon Updation

On April 21, 2015, Google released a  new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm that’s designed to give a boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google’s mobile search results. It become more easier for users to read content without tapping and zooming web page.

Parked domain Updation

 This was introduced in April 2016. It is the registration  of an Internet domain name without that domain being associated with any services such as e-mail or a website. This may have been done with a view to reserving the domain name for future

Google's Pirate Update is  introduced in August 2012 created to stop sites with many copyright infringement reports, as filed through Google's DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act )  system.
